KHQ Group Quilt: Baby Animals Quilt, 1989
39" x 50"

This charming little quilt began as a make work project to appease our appliqué aficionados, who wanted to hone their skills on something other than piecework. We tentatively planned it as a sale item for the Boutique at our upcoming quilt show. The pattern was found in the Reader's Digest Complete Book of Needlework. Some of the animal patterns given were substituted by others that were derived from childern's colouring books.

To say that the ladies took delight in the making of these blocks would be a gross understatement. One has only to look at the quilt with all its embroidered embellishments to envision the enjoyment they derived from working on it.

Blue sashing unifies the piece while seeming to give each of the diverse blocks prominence within their own space. The appeal of this charming quilt was further heightened by the addition of the blue and yellow picot edge.

When entered in the Handcraft Competition at the 1989 C.N.E., our Baby Animals Quilt placed first in its class. The following comments by the judges were included with the award:

"Lovely design, charming faces, good work."

This little treasure of a quilt was sold within the membership. It was shown at Kingston Heirloom Quilters 1990 Festival of Quilts II.
